I was going down St Leonards road with my mother.

I must have been about 9 or 10.

Suddenly a German plane came over firing at us. I can still see the bullets coming towards us down the road and ricocheting around us.

He was so low that we could see the pilot sitting there.

My mum threw herself on top of me, before someone dragged us to safety.
