I was 5 years old when the war started, I knew we were at War but of course I was too young to understand the reasons why we were at war.
When I was younger I was never evacuated but my whole family moved to Nottingham. I did not see a lot of my dad because he was sent off to war. My mum had to start working when we moved to Nottingham, she worked at Players Cigarette Factory, she hadn鈥檛 worked before that. One night when the air raid siren went off, I was running towards the air raid shelter, and heard my Mum yelling 鈥渒eep on running and don鈥檛 look back鈥, so I did as my mother said and I just carried on running until I got inside the air raid shelter. In the morning I went outside and looked down our garden path and saw machine gun bullets all the way down it, and up to our Ariel for our radio the bullets had completely destroyed it, I then realised that if I had stopped and looked back I probably would not be standing there that morning and realised how lucky I was.
