My parents Douglas and Freda Milne were in the ARP. They used to have to make check that lights were hidden during the black out and my mother sat on the phone and took messages. They covered the Bar Beacon area of Biringham, the highest spot in the West Midlands. They could see the flames in Birmingham and Coventry durinbg The Blitz. I was only little during the war as I was born in 1940 but I do remember the barrage balloons. Every so often one would break loose. I had to become a vegetarian because my dad was not well, he had a duodenal ulcer, and needed my meat for strength. I also had to wear my sisters clothes as everything was in short supply.
