I was in India serving my country. We had been shipped around terribly and the conditions were awfule. The one story i recall is when they were able to bring the prisoner of war troops back from the Burma. they were flying them back in Dakota aircrfat straught to London. The one day we had a call from the aircraft saying it had engine problems and needed to land. they asked for volunteers and all 2000 of the Salvage And Repair Unit stood up. The aircraft landed safety but we needed to get the troops out. They opened the back door and the stench hit us.The troops were spread across dakota floor. the smewll of sweat blood and human excriment was awful. we managed to get all the troops off but three of thenm didnt survive the horrid jorney across asia.
