I was a few months old when the war started and it didn't finish until I was 7 (when I tasted my first banana!) well on my first day of school I heard the air raid siren and I was so confused. I didn't have the guts to ask anyone older, so my friend mary-anne and I made our way to the bottom of the yard looking around for the shelter. The sirens were getting louder and our hearts were beating quicker than ever the headmistress was waiting to tell the newcomers the school procedure for air raids and beckoned us inside. It was very cramped inside full of all older children who I didn't know I noticed my cousin may and went over to see her sudenly there was a deafening bang and I knew a bomb had been dropped. I thought of my mother and I had tears in my eyes. I began preying she was safe! We were in the shelter for 2 hours until it stopped. When I got home my mother informed me my grandfather's house had been destroyed and his dog Pepper was still inside. I was upset but at least my grandad was alive!
