I was conceived on my father's embarkation leave in 1940.
I had two older brothers but I guess my father missed my childhood years because I was nearly five before he came home.
Dad was like a stranger to us all and I have to confess that given the chance to spoil me, he did!!
It was a long time before my brothers could accept having a stranger giving them orders or telling them off. I don't think it was easy for my father. I think this was the case for many of the returning soldiers.
I think it was hard for my mum, as she had enjoyed independence for many years and suddenly Dad was home - the head of the house !
We were the lucky ones. We came through it all and became a very close family.
