This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Carla
From St. Nicholas C of E Primary School in New Romney
And has been added to the website on behalf of Marise Relf with her
Permission and they fully understand the sites terms and conditions.
I am Marise Relf and during the war I lived in London.
I was evacuated to Exton in Rutlandshire when my family were moved to Bearsted, Kent.
This was quite a shock as my family had quite a big house with a bath and toilet indoors-all mod cons.
This little cottage in Exton belonged to the village blacksmith and it only had two rooms.
I shared a bed with a girl Winsome Macgregor from my school.
I was very happy but I missed my parents.
My favourite occupation was to sit in front of the range and crochet.
I crocheted the blacksmith and his wife a blanket which I left them as present.
