Memories of war.
When I was five years old, I was evacuated to Kirby Moor-side, by train in 1939. I was not very happy there and soon came home.
I remember, on the Town Moor there was Rocket Launching Guns that fired 12 rockets each at any enemy aircraft. The Army tested the guns every Sunday and the nearby houses trembled like there was an earthquake. There was also some Bofer Guns and many buildings, along with an artillery shelter to protect the rockets.
About a mile to the north, was another big battery, at Sandy banks, called the Pallister Works.
