Have you ever wondered what happened to pets during the war? Here's one story.
We lived in Folkestone, which was heavily bombed during the war by shells from France. Our neighbours were killed, and their home destroyed. So my mum took in their cat. He was called Timmy. Our own cats had been evacuated to Caple, nearby.
One day, Timmy went missing. A month later, we found him in the ruins of the bombed out house, safe and well. It happened as my mum was returning home with shopping -- she gave her groceries to an errand boy, while she went into the house to rescue the cat. He lived safely for many years after that.
