I have always lived in St Meryn and at the time of WW2 a 9 year old evacuee came to stay with me, my son was just 3 years old.
I asked my nieghbour what 9 year olds liked and from our discussion I found a book on the "King's and Queen's of England". He read the book and after he read anything he could put his hands on. Soon after his sister and mother come to stay.
He still came to visit me after the war.
People say the evacuation was bad but couples in St Meryn who didn't have children left farms and houses in the village to the evacuees.
