Mr Tallon was born in Melling in 1933. He was six when World War two started, on the third of September, 1939. Bombs were mainly dropped in towns and near factories, the nearest bomb dropped to Mr Tallon was Claughton. Mr Tallon didn't know much about the war because he was young - he was only 12 when the war ended.
Mr Tallon had one brother and a sister, they were both in the army - his sister was a cook and his brother was a soldier. Mr Tallon used to walk to places during the war because there was a bus service but it wasn't very good. Twenty seven evacuees came to Melling in the war. Melling's 27 evacuees mainly came from Salford.
In the war people used to grow lots of fruit and vegetables because food was rationed. If people grew their own food they could eat more. Mr Tallon used to pick rose hips with his friends.
Mr Tallon was not scared of the war because he didn't know much about it. Non of his friends and family died in the war. In his free time he used to play in the garden. There was no home guard in Melling.
