Harry lived in town, and his family only had one outside toilet. The toilet system high up pulled with a rope difficult to pull. Grandad repaired it with a piece of heavy chain used for tying up ferryboats. Grandad warned the family to use the chain carefully and not to tug it too hard. Harry and family were out one night in an air-raid shelter. Dad had to go home to use the toilet 鈥 bomb dropped outside the backyard and flew the roof off the toilet just as Dad pulled the chain. Dad very shocked said to Grandad 鈥淭hat鈥檚 some chain you put on that toilet 鈥 it pulled the roof off.鈥 He really thought it was the chain until later when he found out it was a bomb in the street.
