I was one of seven brothers that served during WW2. Five of my brothers served in the army, the other was in the AFS — Auxiliary Fire Service in Clydebank. He was injured during the Blitz.
I served in Egypt, Libya, Italy, France and Germany during my time. I was in the army for four and a half years before I got any leave home. My job in the army was as a driver, and I supplied food to many units all over Europe.
In 1946 I was demobbed; I was still just 20 years old. A lot of older men were demobbed before me.
