I was born three weeks after the war started 27/09/1939, I know I was christened a couple of weeks later as my mum was terrified we would be bombed. So my my mum and dad were my godparents.
The only memories I have of WW2 are the sirens, and that my father was in the home guard: I had to go to hospital to have my tonsils out in 1945, and I was suppossed to stay in a week, but I was discahrged one day after the operation as thay were clearing the Hospital, (North Wing), for returning soldiers, and I had to stay in bed, and watch the VE day Street Party, Bridge Road, through the window.
But I clearly remember VJ day, especially my first, tin of, salmon sandwich.
Years later, I recall my first born, and the first sweets that I was able to buy without coupons.
