l was a Teleprinter operator on B Watch where we sent out the orders for the Bombing raids and received all the reports back.
We were located down in the bowels of the earth under a Building, it was quite a long walk and down a lot of steps. We worked a four watch system which was quite arduous but we had time off after night duties.
The Signal room was below the Ops room where Bomber Harris held court and where the raids were planned. We lived in Nissen huts a ten minute walk away through woods to get to nd from work, and our Canteen was in the woods. We enjoyed Beans on Toast many nights after coming off watch!! and after a quick nap we would hitchike up to London to see all the Shows - often being given free seats if we were in Uniform.
On VE night we all danced the night away in the Officers Mess. l was demobbed in Feb 1946 when my fiance of five years! returned from service with the RAF inthe Middle East.
and we have now been married for 58 years.
