I was only 4 years old when I was evacuated along with my brother, Brian. He was 5 years older than me. Mother came too because I was so young.
We stayed in a rather nice house with a single lady — very strict. I remember having to be silent when the news was on the wireless. I couldn’t understand why.
My father visited us at weekends in a nearby park.
Rationing of sweets was most important to me. As the years went by I had a better understanding of the war.
