1941 ARMY COMMANDO TRAINING IN A SCOTISH SEA LOCH IN HIS MAJESTY'S SUBMARINE THUNDERBOAT. REQUIRED TO PRACTICE SILENT DIVE. THEY LAY ON THE SEABED BUT DESPITE ALL EFFORTS FOR SILENCE TO BE MAINTAINED THERE WERE LOTS OF STRANGE NOISES BEYOND THEIR CONTROL. WHEN HE ENQUIRED ABOUT THE STRANGE NOISES HE WAS TOLD THAT, "IT WAS NEVER A SILENT BOAT, MAYBE BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN THE THETIS". ORIGINALLY THE SUBMARINE, WHICH HAD GONE DOWN IN LIVERPOOL BAY WITH A LARGE LOSS OF LIFE.THESE BODIES REMAINED ON THE SUB FOR 2-3 MONTHS, BEFORE RECOVERY AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY RECOMMISSIONED AS THE THUNDERBOAT.
