All the members of my family were involved, one way or another,in the War
Starting with me, in September 1939, I was a chorister at St.Pauls Cathedral and the whole school,of 40 boys, was evacuated to Truro, where I was fortunate to have been billeted with the Bishop, Dr. Hunkin, where we lived as members of his family. After leaving school, I was an engineering cadet in 1943 at Loughborough and then joined the Army, serving in Egypt, Palestine and Cyprus.
My next brother ,Donald, joined the RAF and became a bomber pilotand was also involved with clandestine trips over occupied Europe.
His last operational trip was to fly experts to the V2 sites in the Hartz mountains.
My eldest brother, Geoff, was a Territorial in 1939, went out to France with the BEF and was evacuated from Dunkirk. He was sent next to the Middle Eastand was at Torbruk and El Alemain. He finished up in Cyprus.
My sister ,Betty, joined the WAAF and was a plotter at Biggin Hill and Tangmere. She metand later married another bomber pilot, a friend of my brother's, who subsequently became a 'pathfinder 'and was awarded the DFC.
Both my parents worked for the NAAFI, my father subsequently operating the Auctioneers Livestock pool, in which all the livestock sold during the war had to be dealt with.
We all survived the war, though I, as the youngdest ,am the only one left
