This story has been added by CSV volunteer Linda Clark on behalf of the author Peter Gilson. His story was given to the Trebah Video Archive, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2004. The Trebah Garden Trust understand the site’s terms and conditions.

Britain was sending troops to Europe with the BEF, British Expeditionary Force but the war really started in May 1940 when the Germans carried out their Blitzkrieg on Belgium, France and the Netherlands. Falmouth didn’t really experience Dunkirk as they did further up the channel
