I was born on 27th April 1937 and when aged about four I can remember Daddy carrying me down the garden on his shoulders when the siren went to the air raid shelter.
There were always biscuits, not cream or chocolate, but we were always happy to eat them with a cup of water.
We didn鈥檛 have bacon as that was too expensive, so on Sunday mornings we had a fried egg with a slice of fat lean pork.
Of course we didn鈥檛 have toys like they do today. I had a dolly and a box with a piece of string fixed so I could pull dolly round the house. This dolly used to disappear every Christmas and Birthday and appeared on the day which suited. The dolly would have new clothes on and the box fitted with different covers. I was over the moon. I had an elder brother and sister so you see I considered myself a very lucky little girl.
