My 6th birthday was the 9th May 1945 so as the V.E. celebrations got under way on the evening of the 8th May my parents thought I should be woken up to join in. I remember being carried out on to the street (Lyngford Square Taunton) on my fathers shoulders, a bonfire had been lit and a piano dragged out from someones house, also a man playing a piano accordian, everyone was dancing and singing. I really thought that it was all for my birthday.
