One morning in June 1944, we upset our corporal in demonstration platoon, so he decided that he would punish us. He told us to fall in outside on the road and we would go for a march, so off we set. Because we were feeling bloody-minded we would not march properly. After about 20 minutes of marching up and down this road, the corporal said 鈥淚f you don鈥檛 march properly, you will stay here all day, marching up and down.鈥
As time went by, one or two of the soldiers started to march properly, so they were told to drop out and return to their barrack room. After about an hour and a half, several more soldiers started marching properly, and were also told to return to barracks. Several hours later there was only two of us left, myself and one other rifleman. The corporal could see that the two of us had no intention of giving up, so he said 鈥淚鈥檝e had enough of you two 鈥 get back to barracks鈥.
The question is, did we win or did we lose?
