My whole school was evacuated to Worcester, we travelled from New Street station. It was 1939 and I lived with a Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett, lovely couple, with a teenage daughter. I stayed 4 years. I didn鈥檛 mix with the village children (the school was too small)., so I went to school in the Parish Hall. It was the best time of my life. No bombs, lots of fields and fresh air. Plenty of fruit and vegetables from the garden. My family did visit, though not often.
When I got married, Mr. Bartlett gave me away, my own father was dead. I stayed in touch for many years until they passed away.
