It was the day after the raid and my brother and I took the dogs for a walk.We came to a crater and tried to walk round it but the dogs would not move so we dragged them round. Later we discovered that tthe largest bomb dropped that night was in that place.
On this day also the ARP warden who lived across from us ran up the road with a bomb in his hand shouting unexploded bomb.
Our family was told to evacuate to the tennis courts where there would be food for us,on arriving there we were moved on to caterhall school where the military of some kind gave us food.We were evacuated because of the unexploded bomb 500yds from our back door.
At the top of the road was the hospital which had had a direct hit by an incendary bomb and I can remember seeing the patients outside in the snow.
