Before the war I worked in the jewellery quarter at Hatton Garden in London. Later on I became a stretcher-bearer during the Blitz (only because I was keen on a young lady who was a first aider!) I helped firemen connect hoses and rescued people from buildings.

There were 8 of us in our gang - one was in the Territorials and the other 7 of us volunteered in 1940. I studied instrumentation and spent the last years of my service at RAF Seighford repairing and maintaining bombers. I married a local girl and settled down in the Stafford area. Sadly my wife died 15 years ago.
