V-Disc
4th December 1941
Leicester
The Victory Disc or 鈥淰-Disc鈥 were recorded for the U.S. War Department between 1943 to 1948. A total of 906 x 78 RPM discs were released containing over 2700 tracks. All V-Disc were on Vinyl and played with steel needles. Steel needles tended to break up records. Most were made by RCA Victor and Columbia Records.
All great American Artist鈥檚 of the time such as; Ellington 鈥 Herman 鈥 Basie 鈥 Krupa 鈥 Miller 鈥 Goodman - . Great solo鈥檚 by Bing Crosby 鈥 Frank Sinatra 鈥 Ella Fitzgerald 鈥 Peggy Lee 鈥 Jo Stafford 鈥 Perry Como 鈥 Arthur Rubinstein 鈥 Arturo Toscanini etc.
The 12 inch x 78 RPM, the discs, were sent in packs of 20 to the soldiers on the European and Asian Fronts.
After the War, the Matrixes were destroyed by Major Howard 鈥 C.Bronson. Many of the original discs had made their way onto private collections. The matrixes were destroyed because at the time artists were not paid Royalties.
