Wednesday,9th.May,1945.
On landing at Dunsford,Surrey,I was
patted on the back by a General. After being
de-loused,we received a meal from the Red
Cross. Taken on trucks with padded seats to
No. 111 Reception Camp (Borde Hill),Haywards
Heath,Surrey. It was raining as we passed
through several beflagged villages. (Still
difficult to believe that this is "Blighty).Heard cuckoo -spirit of freedom in the atmosphere. A telegram form
was awaiting to be sent to relatives
informing them of our safe arrival in England. Received good dinner.Rested for a
short time.At Information Room-studied time
tables. Saw small part of ENSA show. Received pay of 拢5 . Supper at NAFFI.Wrote
Betty. (17th.letter).Luxurious bed-good sleep.
Thursday,10th.May,1945 .
Rose at 07.00 hours. Breakfast in the
Sergeant's Mess. Wrote letters,and sent telegrams to Mother and Betty. Warm sunshine. Saw news films in camp cinema.
Talk from Commanding Officer -interogated.
Heard radio news in Sergeant's Mess.Shower-
bath -X-rayed (MMR). Walked down to town.
At cinema and canteen.
Friday,11th.May,1945.
Rose 07.00. Received pay of 拢7. Bought
NAFFI rations. Medical and dental inspection
Re-equipped with clothing. Drew travel warrant and other documents. Hastily packed.
Truck to station 3.45 p.m..Reached Victoria
5.p.m. Truck to KIng's Cross. At Trafalgar
Square. Received free meal at St.Martin-in-
the Fields Canteen. Walked through Piccadilly;Palace and Green Park. Left London 10 p.m..
Saturday.12th.May.1945.
Arrived Edinburgh at 7.30 a.m..Took
taxi home - 8 a.m. Saw Mum and Dad.Very glad to be home.Unpacked kit. Bath. Listened
to radio. Read letters and talked. Dressed -
collar and tie . Walked into town -Princes
Street Gardens. Pleasant sunshine .
