I was just turned twelve years old when the war broke out. The unknown was frightening; as war was announced on the radio fear seeemed to flow through my veins instead of my blood. We were a family of four.
Alot of the children were evacuated to Wales, but we stayed put. The schools shut even for homework as the bombs were falling thick and fast, and every night we spent in our Anderson Shelter praying we would be around in the morning. We were very comfortable as Dad had built us bunk beds. Mum was above Ron and Dad above me, and the cat shared with me at my feet. We had an oil light for light plus torches for emergency.
