It was a story my late mother used to tell about her first encounter with a sentry at the barracks she had been sent to after joining the A.T.S. . She arrived during a black out, as she neared the barracks she was challanged by the sentry, but never realised that his, HOLT WHO GOES THERE, actually ment her, so she carried on walking, again she was challanged and again ignored him where as he let loose a stream of abuse and the words he was going to shoot, i must point out at this stage that my mother had been educated at a convent school and had never heard swear words used like that, so in her very best voice she asked ' Are you talking to me?' where as the poor man let loose more exspletives but was kind enough to explain what she had to respond whith when she was challanged in the future. And that was just one of a number of incidents to happen to her.
