As was usual in the little streets of London, after any event people came out of their front doors to compare notes, and, in the blitz, to see what had happened and if everyone was all right.
After a daylight raid at the beginning of the raids on London we came to the front and the adults were calling out to each other when we looked up and a large barrel shaped thing was drifting down on a parachute. It was still high and fortunately the wind lifted it and it went over the factory wall at the end of the road and exploded in a further street.
We were lucky.
I was ten.
