My Grandparents
I didn't really know my Grandparents very well. My Grandfather died when I was quite young and my Grandmother died a long time before I was born, but they were both very active during the war. My Mom told me a lot about them.
My Grandfather Kenneth Wedge was a Special Policeman and worked in the aeronautical industry. My Grandmother Marjorie also worked in aeronatics and had quite a responsible job both of them had jobs akin to an aeronatical engineer today, something of which I am quite proud, particularly for my Grandmother as a woman in the 1940s. I wonder if she would have had quite such good opportunities if there hadn't been a war and there were more men around?
As a Special Policeman, my Granfather often had to bring home the police dogs and they were kenneled in my mom's back garden when she was small. She can remember being told to keep away from them as they were dangerous.
I am proud of the work that both my Grandparents did. Although not directly in the thick of battle, their skill in aeronautics was vital for the war effort and my Grandfather had an extremely responsible role as a Policeman for keeping Wolverhampton a safe place.
