One day in 1941 (around 4pm), I was coming back from school on Lockwood Road when a Messerschmitt came down and started shooting in the street. Suddenly I was dragged into the house by my mum, who dragged an old lady of the street in at the same time, just as the plane reached where we had been standing. It was so close that we could see the pilot's face as the plane flew past.
