In 1940 my brother Frank aged 29 went to war, he was 15 years older than me. On leaving he told me to have a drink with him on every Saturday night. A year later I was having a drink in the Morning Star at 9pm. The next night at 9pm, when I was working in the Bakery I felt someome watching me. I turned round and saw an image of him in uniform smiling at me.
Two days later my mother sent me to the Post Office with a parcel for him; but I had to take it home again as I didn't know what was in it. When I arrived home my mother and elder brother just stood staring at me. They told me that Frank had been killed on the Saturday night I had had a drink to him. I didn't break down until 2 years ago in 2003 when I went to see his grave.
