I was about 6/7 years old and after breakfast I went out to play with a friend who lived down the road. As a child I had to go out via the back door, so I decided to go down the back alleys which was between two rows of houses. I arrived at my friend鈥檚 house, knocked on the back door and was puzzled when there was no response, but then a voice behind me boomed 鈥渨hat are you doing here?鈥 I turned to see my friend鈥檚 next door neighbour who asked again 鈥渨hat are you doing here?鈥 to which I replied 鈥淚鈥檝e come to call for Sid鈥 鈥渉ow did you get here鈥 she asked 鈥渄own the back alleys鈥 I replied 鈥渨hy what鈥檚 the matter?鈥 I asked 鈥渃an鈥檛 you see why?鈥 she said 鈥淟ook over there鈥 I turned to my right, and saw below the living room window a large hole in the wall and the tail end of an unexploded bomb, 鈥測ou鈥檇 better clear off鈥 she said, 鈥淚鈥檓 here because Sid鈥檚 Mum is upstairs having a baby, the Doctors with her now, so go on clear off鈥 she said. When I went back home I told mum who said 鈥 no one had been to tell us鈥 and on looking out of the front of the house we saw that the road had been cordoned off up to our next door neighbours.
