Last week I saw a TV programme about the war time work of Sir Archibald McIndoe. This reminded me of the Airmen I saw during my service who were being treated by Sir Archibald McIndoe in East Grinstead.
Each time I saw them they had got slowly better as their faces were repaired by plastic surgery. We didn't pass comment to them about their faces, but we could see the gradual improvements. It was amazing what he could do. He could even repair missing fingers.
