Sept 1st 1939: I went to Lozells Street School, Birmingham, to be evacuated with the rest of my school. When we reached Guthrie Street, my Mum kissed me and went. So I sat on my case and cried so the teacher had to fetch Mum who took me home.
August 1940: We went to stay at Halfway House, Shropshire, as my mother was pregnant and needed a break. We stayed with Mrs Fox in the Seven Stars Inn.
While we were there we visited Mr & Mrs Vaughan at Great Wollaston Farm. First I stayed till the end of the holiday, then it was to be until the baby was born in October and eventually I went home in September 1944 to go to the grammar school.
