Jonathan Wilkinson returns to Sidi Nsir on 3rd November 2005 thanks to 'Heroes Return'. In the far background is the memorial to the battle fought on 26th February 1943.
Thanks to a grant from the 'Heroes Return' scheme, I have made a return to Sidi Nsir with my family. Over 62 years later I was standing close to my position with B Company, 5th Hampshires in the hills behind the village of Sidi Nsir. I was able to pick out the hill where I was captured with two of my mates. So many of the Hampshires, Leicesters and Royal Artillery were killed in this battle ...it was a very emotional return. A memorial in the village marks the battle.
