After I was injured I was in the Hospital Militaire in Brussels. I was being moved back up the line to cross the Rhine. I had my kit bag all packed up and was making my way back up when I was confronted by an Irish RSM with a big bunch of shamrock in his hat (it was St. Patrick's Day!).
He ordered me to tip everything out of my bag and rhen proceeded to throw all of my stuff around using his pace stick.
The RSM addressed all of us in the line in no uncertain terms "Keep away from them. I don't want to see you here again" I thought he was referring to the enemy.
What I hadn't realised was that the line of blokes I'd fallen in behind were making their way back from the VD clinic!
When the RSM realised his mistake he couldn't have been more apologetic - he picked my kit up himself!!
