Leaving school at 14 on a friday. monday i started work, when i started i was told i was to work in AID department at Gillettes (Great West Rd). When i got there thinking i was going to be a first aider, it turned out to be Aicraft inspection department. It was working on Wellington Bombers, inspection pistons for the aircraft engines. So that was my first introduction of War Work where i remain to the end of the wa. Diring that time we had lots of raids obviously. On returning collecting pieces of Shrapnaw and Airraid shelters. At night my father, 2 sisters were airraid wardens. They were there to put out any insentry bombs and to help any people that were injured and just help in general. When tha airraid sirens went my dad would not let us in the shelters, so we all went under the stairs where there was a mattress, bottles of water.
