I am trying to find out some information about my father who served in France between 14th June 1944 and 2nd September 1944. He was in Caen and Falaise. He was a sergeant /tank commander with the Royal Armoured Corps (161 Recce Regt. Green Howards)but he also served in the Loyal Regiment. His rank was WS/CPL (??)when he was demobbed on 15th May 1945. I am not sure which regiment he was in during his time in France. He was injured during this period and came back to England.
This entry has been submitted by his daughter.
The war left an indelible imprint on him and he made many references to the experience but I never knew any details.
I have been helping people to write their accounts of the war on to this website as part of my job in Ludlow library and it has inspired me to find out more about my father's time in the army.
He lived in Manchester before the war and volunteered for service. He enlisted on 24th July 1940.
Is there any one out there who can shed some light on the regiments he was in?
