When I was about 9 years old, my house was bombed by a V2 Rocket. It landed just outside the house and demolished it, leaving only the chimney breast standing.
There were three of us in the house. My Mum, Dad and myself. My Brother was at a friends house. We were sitting around the table (also used as the indoor shelter) eating dinner and the next thing we knew I was buried in rubble.
You couldn't hear the rockets until they struck. We were buried under the rubble until the Air-Wardens came round to dig us out. We all survived, but the rubble kept falling on my Fathers head, giving him quite a bad head.
My Brother heard the bomb and knew we were in the house, and when he ran round he only saw the chimney breast. He thought we hadn't survived. As a result I developed Asthma from the shock. One of our neighbours was killed coming down the stairs.
We were moved into temporary accomodation. They rebuilt bombed houses, so we were able to move back in. The rebuilt house is still standing. Ironically it was the penultimate rocket during the War. It finished very shortly afterwards.
