This is a transcript of a letter Mr Love sent to his mother when he an evacuee staying with his aunt in Dorset.
'Dear Mum and Dad. Thankyou for the parcel, we recievied yesterday, the chocolate cream was nice. Also the money.
I hope you are keeping alright as Don and I are and i hope the rockets and buzz-bombs have not been over much.
Thanks also for the comics you are sending weekly, they fit in rather well now in the evenings as it gets dark early now and it is sometimes very cold out. But still, most evenings when it is not raining we go out by the stile and play "he", and sometimes we play "ickedy, ickedy, ho" a game something like hide-and-seek.
We have been getting some very rough winds lately also torrents of rain when the winds have dropped. Also on thursday we had about half an hour of heavy snow but it did not stick as it was raining only a minute before.
Thank Mrs Lage for the money, I am glad to hear Charlie is out of hospital and I hope his arm is quite alright now.
If you can't get any bottles of clear dope a 4/- tin will do as i now have two areoplanes to do.
The last weekend and Monday and Tuesday morning we had for half term and on the Saturday John Bridle, Raymond Joogood and I went to Blandford in the afternoon and there I bought 3 tubes of Balsa wood cement so I have some to go on with now.
While we were there we went into a public lavatory and there was a yank there and just before that we had bought nine penny worth of chips and we had nearly finished them and the yank in the lavatory had the door open but had seen there was no paper in there so he came up to us and gave us 6d for the chip paper.
Miss Gillett gave me 2/6 for some tanks and Mrs Whitehead gave me 2/6 for some and it worked out I sold all 10 for 5/- which isn't bad.
I have got to make some more for another lady and Auntie Clara as well so do you think you could get me some more balsa wood as I havn't any left.
I am getting on fine at school and I am getting on alright with the other chaps in the class.
I have got about 1lb of chestnuts put back for christmas and i am going out to get some more soon. Also any stuff I get off the Yanks now I am putting back for christmas so far I have got 5 1/2 sticks of gum.
I am sorry to say Don has a slight touch of 'impatigo' but it isn't much and the doctor said there was a lot of it going round. Auntie Clara took him to the Doctors tonight.
I am sorry but I cannot put any more money on my stamp sheet as I have started saving for Christmas presents. Don am I have been lookoing out a few christmas decorations but there arn't any, only lanterns, so do you think you could send down some paper chains and the fairy for the top of the christmas tree and also some baubles and candles and candle holders for the tree as we are going to cut the top off the xmas tree in the garden for xmas.
Well I don't think there is any more to say so, Love from Rex xxxx'
