I was living in London during the war with my grandmother and remember walking home through the bombing to take shelter with my grandmother once we saw a plane crash.
My grandparents had small homemade shelter in their bedroom and during raids the people who lived upstairs would come into the bedroom to share the small shelter.
Once, while I was at a chiropodist, the warning sirens went off whilst some German planes flew overhead on a bombing raid and the chiropodist held me until the sirens stopped.
My grandfather won a medal from the First World War, which is now in the London National Army Museum.
I also remember being sent to Wales as an evacuee during the night and it was pitch black.
