I worked in munitions in Cosby, Leicestershire at Alfred Herberts which was a firm from Coventry.
It took me a while to get into it and then I liked it.
We made parts.
We used to go to dances with friends. We would walk everywhere — Croft, Stoney Stanton, Countesthorpe, Broughton Astley.
I lived with my parents. My father did some sort of engineering in Leicester.
My brother was in the army.
My other brother worked on a farm.
I had 5 sisters. Three were married and the other two lived at home.
We used to live on spam. I got to like it at the finish. We had dried egg and dried milk.
We'd bottle everything like fruit and pickled onions.
