My mother sister Betty and I were all in Mum and Dad's bed on the night in question, we could hear the bombs falling on Southampton, when suddenly father shouted 'Duck Jack there's something coming' and we all ducked under the bedclothes and were waiting what seemed like ages and then there was one almighty bang, the building shook and the ceiling came down, well we came from under the covers coughing and spluttering when dads voice cameagain saying ' duck Jack there's another one' and so under we went again another loud bang and the rest of the ceiling came down. We found out why we hadn't heard the whistle of the bombs, it was because they were landmines and the first had blown the other one over away from the road we lived in or we would all have been killed.
The second landmine fell next to a house killing everyone, I had been at school with the children of the house the day before.
We didn't cry because we had too much clearing up to do, it just made us hate the Germans more than we did before.
