Maisie was caught in an air raid on her 21st birthday. A bomb dropped in the street she was in and she had to stay in a shelter that Night.
As told to Michael McClelland
During the war Maisie was a bus conductor. This was a man's job but all the men were at war, so all the women had to do the men's jobs. Maisie's husband was a soldier. He was a Desert Rat. They were called this because they fought and hid in the desert. A man called General Montgomery was the leader of the Desert Rats.Maisie's husband got injured during the war. The Belfast Blitz was the day before her birthday.Maisie was 23 when the war ended.Just after World War one her father was a joiner on the Titanic. She didn't get evacuated because she was too old. She was in an air raid. Maisie was going down town with her friend when suddenly a bomb landed right in front of her there was a fire, instead of going home she ran up High street and a man told her to get into a bunker.
Her husband drove trucks during the war. Once the trucks were attacked. In the first truck everyone was killed, in the second some were killed. Her husband was on the third, he was only injured but his knee cap was blown off, but it was able to be sewen back on. On D-day they put all their money together and bought what they could to have street parties.
