I was living in Lakenheath as a boy during wartime. Everything was short
during the War. We used to cut up newspapers for loo rolls. We learned to
make do. At first during the raids we slept on a mattress under the dinigng
room table but then had an air raid shelter built in the garden. We lived
near an airfield and I can remember watching the dummy aircraft at the RAF
base - I suppose it was to fool the enemy. I used to watch the planes going
out and coming back. I joined the Navy after the War and now live in
Ipswich.
