Gunner George Arthur Wilson 2.3.1911-27.11.1986 278 H.A.A. Battery, Royal Artillery 1939-1945 'Everywhere: Where Fate and Glory Lead'

Fortunately our dad did come home, but as with many others, the events and conditions had aged him, but we could still have a smile. The day after he came home, he got up early and made himself some breakfast. Later he said to mum 'I've enjoyed my breakfast, that corn-beef was lovely. He'd unknowingly eaten the family's meat ration for the rest of the week.
Prior to the war, dad had worked in Locke Park, Barnsley, Yorkshire. He was fortunate to find employment back in the Park's department after the war.
