During the war my mother was a SOE Special Operation Excecutive. I was sent to boarding school near Hawkhust, between the ages of 3 and 7. I only saw my mother four times a year for 24-48 hours only and she was always in Khaki.
If the bombing in London was not bad I was able to go to Lincolnshire to stay with my Grandparents. I was taken to Charing Cross Station where my mother would meet me and take me to Kings Cross Station to catch the train to Lincolnshire. I would be in the charge of the guard and sit in the guard van, all the windows were blacked out, he cut me a tiny square so that I could peep out of the window for the journey. My gas mask was labeled with my name and destination. My Grandparents met me at the other end.
