It is rather funny how information i spassed and how things happen in wartime. There were some Germna prisoners take back to HQ for interrogation and there was one particular German officer who, when searched, was found to have some valuable documents in his possession. Apparently Rommel had given instructions that all Matilda Tanks were to be destroyed as they had caused him a lot of trouble in the going back as far as 1940 and the battle of Arras and now we were doing the same again in the desert. Apparently some of the British POW's taken in France turned out to be GEordie's and Rommel had said that they were very crafty and teh trouble they had caused him stuck in his mind and he never forgot it. Whether he knew I was a Geordie, I do not know, as I was nearly taken prisoner in France but managed to escape their net and get back to England.
